About Grant Gaugush

I’ve been writing, in some way, all my life. As a little kid, I used to constantly write short stories. However, my real journey with it began in ninth grade. That’s when I realized that it was a part of me I couldn’t live without.

As an artist, I’m inspired by the classics. The first author that really gripped me was Cormac McCarthy. After reading No Country for Old Men, I was hooked. He was the author who truly got me into the classics, and, since then, I haven’t looked back. Eventually, that path led me to the book that would change my life: Moby-Dick.

The thing that I love most about the classics is the clear passion for the craft and an appreciation for words. Words aren’t just the medium of storytelling. They’re an integral part of what makes certain pieces pop while others fail. The words are the artform. The classics show where real passion and care will take you. They’re bold and daring, they aren’t afraid to try new things, and, most of all, there’s the sense that everything comes together perfectly at the end.

This is what I hope to achieve with my writing. I want to capture this passion. I want to force myself and my readers out of our comfort zones, twisting classic story concepts into new and interesting forms. Through this approach, I believe that we can all learn something new, from the value of seeking out novel experiences to the perspectives of people we might not normally have agreed with. I’m still far from having it all figured out. My views grow and change with every new story I write. But, in the end, I think we can do it together. All that we can do is share and listen and empathize. Art is the path to that future.
